Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Santa Barbara, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Oku was okay….. Food was 11/10 service was awful. Only got 1 menu. No ginger/wasabi till 5 mins after our rolls showed up. Our waitress was no where to be found. My asahi canned beer was given to me with a steaming hot cup. Got charged a 90$ deposit for their signature cocktail cups..(pictured below) Which isn’t a big deal but no where on the menu says cup deposit and our waitress ran our card with the deposit so hopefully the 90$ gets refunded. Honestly wish we just sat at the bar. It wasn’t even that busy. We got sat right away with no reservation and there was no line the whole time we were there. Sucks because the food is probably the freshest seafood I’ve had on the central coast this year. Overall when I walked in I was so excited to make future plans and invite all my friends to this establishment, but if I ever come back I’m either ordering Togo Or siting at the bar. Compliments to the chef!

Greet local sushi & Japanese spot! Quality food, service & atmosphere. The roof top patio with ocean & pier views was a gorgeous dinner setting. The spicy tuna crispy rice & crouching tiger roll were amazing! Great sides with the garlic blistered green beans and suomono salad.

We ordered the nigiri, a few rolls, brussel sprouts, a handroll, and ramen yakisoba. Everything was delicious. The fish was flavorful with a beautiful texture and the remaining dishes were seasoned beautifully. If you're able to sit outside, the ambiance, aided by your proximity to the waterfront, is immaculate (but be aware traffic can get loud at times). 10/10 experience

We dine in at Oku a few times a month, usually for date night or special occasions. Tonight we celebrated my dad’s birthday who is visiting us this weekend. We had a wonderful dinner, my dad had a great time and Katie made it happen. Katie was kind, professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommend. We will be back!

If your coming to Santa Barbara, this is a place I will always recommend! I have been loving this place since I attended UCSB and I still love this restaurant years later. Pro-tip: reserve a spot on the terrace for gorgeous views of the water and come during sunset it’s even more special. What we ordered: (shared by 3) -spicy edamame: 100/10, genuinely one of the best I’ve ever had. The sauce is heaven, perfectly charred with a cake that keeps me dreaming about. -crispy korean cauliflower: 100/10, another dish I dream about, the glaze is 10 out of 10, perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and an unbelievable crunch -oku lamb rack: 100/10, ULTIMATE FAV, my secret dish. I’ve turned so many lamb haters into fans with Okuβ€˜s perfectly seasoned lamb chops. Sits on top of mashed potatoes and yummy veggies -espresso martini, lychee martini & wine spritz: 8/10, lots of different drink options on the menu from cocktails to wine, on the terrace with the sunset and ocean view it is unmatched -blistered shishito peppers: 8/10, great snack for the table, super juicy. Blistered to perfection, adds a tiny bit of spice, but not too much if you normally can’t handle spicy this is for you. -yellowta
